Manchester Valley Game

Value Point System for Manchester Valley Game

I just did a nice long look at the Manchester Value game, and here are some of the things I saw that really stood out:

1st Half1. 5 of our first 6 shots were 3's- Not good2. 1st half we shot 11 3's vs 14 2's, we made 3 3's and 5 2's. That is a whopping 25% from the field and we were up 3 at half.3. Mark and Ben had a hard time knocking down shots in that first half. They were a combined 1-10. We ran the offense satisfactorily.4. We had 7 first half TO's versus virtually no pressure.5. Jarrett had a hell of a first half in terms of positive stat contributions, as did Peyton rebounding the ball. Not to forget Colby's memorable finish at the end.

3rd Quarter1. After half and a nice little talk in the locker room, the first group messed up the first 3 possessions (TO, offensive rebound..). At that point I subbed all 5 out.2. That group that came in (Kendall, Ryan, Tylor, Jacob, and Brandon) got us an 8 point lead, but also put us into foul trouble that killed us later on. When we took them out, they had relinquished the lead back to 2 or 3 off of fouls and offensive rebounds3. We put that first group back in, and Ben turns it over, Jarrett turns it over, then on the next possession Jarrett nearly throws it away but got lucky it was tipped.4. We put that earlier group back in, but with Colby instead of Tylor since he fouled out.5. We were still up by 4 points.

This 4th quarter was a perfect storm of miscues...1. Kendall misses 2 straight driving lay-ups and floaters2. Colby misses a driving lay-up3. Jarrett missed two FTs4. Ryan missed a lay-up, got his own rebound, missed another lay-up5. Colby missed a driving lay-up6. During the course of these missed easy opportunities, we gave up at least 3 offensive rebound put backs.7. They got the lead with a little over 5 minutes to go and began to hold the ball which we then had to get reckless to get the ball back8. Because of our foul trouble from the 3rd quarter, they had way too many FTs the rest of the game (36 overall).9. We only scored on 4 FTs by Colby the 4th quarter. We did not make any field goal even with at least 6 layup attempts.10. Down double figures under a minute to go, Ben and Ryan dive on the floor for a loose ball. That is heart, and we must all play this way the entire 32 minutes, up 100 or down 100.

I was very wrong about us not running the offense. We ran the offense somewhat. We just did not make any shots, and it made us look really bad. We just rushed at times and took too many deep shots. Mark was 0-8 from the field (5 threes), Ben was 1-5 (all threes), and Ryan was 1-9 (7 layups, 2 jumpers). That is not going to win us many games. Some of Mark's threes were a little early in the offense, but they were good looks. Ryan had all good looks and aggressive drives. Nothing would fall and it ended up making us look really bad. That, and they completely dominated us on the offensive rebounds. Neither Kendall nor Ben had a single rebound, and Mark with his size and leaping ability gave us only 3. We also gave them 14 layups or putbacks (mainly putbacks).

We got 45 shots, we made 14. That is less than 33%.
